My Hair Challenge

Recently I have become obsessed with taking better care of my hair so that it can grow to a good length!  For about 2 years I rocked the cutest cut that I loved but then in August 2009 I decided to start growing it out.

When I decided to start growing it out in August 2009, it was about chin length.

By December 2009, it had reached shoulder length! Keep in my mind I found out I was pregnant in October.  So the extra vitamins and pregnancy hormones may  have had something to do with my success.

In May of 2010 I got bored but also my hair growth had stalled.  This was before I had done any research into growing my hair out.  If I had I would've found out that when you're hair is shoulder length, its best to keep your hair in protective hairstyles so that the ends don't break against your clothing.  Nonetheless, I decided to get a styled cut which I loved at the time.

Over the summer of 2010, I really didn't maintain my hair like I had been because my baby was here!  I was barely getting sleep, let alone washing and conditioning my hair weekly like I had been.  So by September 2010 my hair was only at shoulder length :-(

Then a month later I went to salon to had them do what I had been holding off for too long... Even out my angled cut I had got back in May.  And, I ended up with a nice even cut but I felt all I had worked on went down the drain!

Right now, my hair is CBL (Collar Bone Length) and I'm hoping to attain APL (Arm Pit Length) by May... Just in time for summer!

My current hair regime isn't solid as I'm still trying to figure out what will work for me.  But a few things I definitely do now are:

1. Keep my hair off my shoulders in a loose updo for most of the week
2. Deep Condition once a week
3. Protein treatment every other week (until I no longer need to and then I will drop down to once a month)

I'm experimenting with different moisturizing and sealing treatments.  Right now what works for me is spraying my hair at night with my KMS Leave-In conditioner and sealing with Kemi Oil.  I am trying to get my hands on some coconut oil from Vitamin Shoppe but until then what I have will have to do.  I will try to update you guys as the months go on so you can see the difference in length.  As well, if I change up my hair care regimen and find awesome new products, I will review those.  Please check back often because I am big on trying out new products which I will definitely start reviewing on here.

Do you have your own story?  Please share your struggle (or success :-)) in the comment section.  What's your hair care regimen?  And, do you have products that you swear by?

Until next time..... Muah!

  1. Hey baby girl! Your hair looks fabulous! You're obviously doing something right.

Well you know I've done many things with my hair over the years...long to short to long again...relaxed/colored to natural. As you know, I'm sporting the short natural curl, but planning to let it grow and keep it natural. I think back to when you and your sister were little girls with heads full of thick healthy hair just like me when I was a small girl. Of course, our hair is healthiest when we're children. Well, I've decided to reclaim part of my childhood in that respect. I'll keep you posted on my progress and send photos. Currently, I'm using two products...Paul Mitchell's Foaming Pomade and Blended Beauty hair cream. I like the look and feel of both and they are priced similarly.
